Kereru were lucky to have Ellie and Andre bring in some of their special rocks to share with the class. It was great to help us with our learning about different types of rocks and used some of our senses to describe them.
We visited Canterbury museum and Quake City to support our learning around our topic of earthquakes and volcanoes. We learnt about different ways of grouping rocks and enjoyed the hands on experiences at Quake City while learning about the Christchurch Earthquakes.
It was lots of fun learning about different types of fault lines by using Mars bars to look at how the directions the plates move. We looked at strike slips, normal and reverse faults.
On Fridays we write 100 word stories. We have to use WOW words and different sentence starters. Check out some of our writing below.
One day Lily decided to go out to the abandoned library at the edge of town. As soon as Lily reached the main street she took notice of a strange sight. You know how ordinary people do not wear cloaks, well these people do. Lily was very confused. She crouched down behind a bush and waited. Suddenly an owl screeched up to her, it started to attack. Lily ran around in circles waving her arms in the air. Suddenly one of the strange cloak figures caught a glimpse of her. Then he shouted in a booming voice ”Hey get your filthy hands off my owl.” Lily was startled.

Anne ran, ran for her life. Her heart was exploding every beat like a volcano erupting. Everything was blurry to her, this was turning into a nightmare. Most of her body was telling her to stop, she froze. The lush green forest around her was waving in the wind, it was majestic and beautiful until she heard the ear rattling bang. I opened my eyes. Ring! Ring! Ring! My alarm clock was wailing like a banshee in the woods. This felt like the end of my life not a Sunday morning. Tired legs lift me out of bed as slow as a slug. A few minutes later I found myself sitting at the shining breakfast bar in the sun munching on a piece of burnt toast. I was staring at the window while eating. It was a dark, foggy morning with car lights flashing in the distance. Suddenly there was a knock at the door but when I opened it, my heart stopped beating.
