We are the fabulous Year 4, 5 and 6 students in Kea for 2024. We are lucky to be working with the awesome Mrs Krivanek as she helps us on our way to excellence.
In Kea we have been learning about space during our topic this term. Here is our writing explaining what an Aurora is.
What is an Aurora
Well an aurora is different gases that come from the sun they mix together to form into bubbles of gas and they travel to the earth and the aurora is formed by them going through the magnetic field at the north and south pole then the colours start to form. That’s how the aurora was created.

An aurora is a beautiful light in the night sky. If it’s in the South, it’s called Aurora Australis. It has this name because it’s from the Southern hemisphere. It can also be called Southern lights. But if it’s in the North It’s called Aurora Borealis. It’s also got this name because it’s from the Northern hemisphere. It’s also called the Northern lights.
These are the colours that can be seen. When tiny particles hit oxygen it’s colour will be Green and red, but if the tiny particles hit nitrogen the colour will be pink, purple or blue.
Something also happens in our solar system. In our solar system the sun has an outburst that’s called a solar storm.
The earth also has a magnetic field to protect us from a bit of solar wind.
There can also be auroras in space, Jupiter and Saturn

What is an Aurora Auroras only happen in the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere. The northern hemisphere is also called northern lights and the southern hemisphere is also called the southern lights. And northern lights are also called aurora borealis while the southern lights are also called aurora australis. Auroras are made from tiny electrified particles called electrons and protons. When electrons high five the oxygen it makes dark purple and blue auroras and when the protons high five the nitrogen it makes a pink and purplish colour. Auroras are made when the sun burps a giant bundle of gas and it flies through space and gets through our magnetic field some do not get through. And that is how auroras are made.

We have also been learning about structuring sentences during our literacy. Here are some of the word clouds that we made by coming up with synonyms for different verbs.
